When I started learning about Product Management, good resources were hard to come by.
If I were to start from scratch today, here’s exactly what I’d do.
1) Build Something From Scratch
No theory can replace real experience. Start a side project—whether it’s a blog, YouTube channel, or simple app. Set clear goals, track progress, and reflect on what works. This helps craft compelling stories for job interviews while sharpening real product skills.
2) Pick Affordable Courses That Teach Practical Skills
A structured learning path helps build confidence and credibility. There are many solid, budget-friendly courses out there—some of which I’ve personally created.
3) Follow People Who Share Valuable Insights
Industry leaders constantly share knowledge that can fast-track learning. Some of the best to follow include Aakash Gupta, Paweł Huryn, Maja Voje and David Pereira. Observing their approaches to challenges is a great way to think like a PM.
4) Read Case Studies on Successful Products
Nothing beats learning from real-world successes and failures. Books like Samsung Rising and case studies on viral growth strategies (like Dropbox’s famous referral loop) can give you an edge in interviews and daily decision-making.
5) Rehearse for Job Interviews
The best way to stand out is by being well-prepared. Practicing common PM interview questions and frameworks will boost confidence and communication skills when it matters most.
6) Make It a Daily Habit
Treat product management like a personal interest, not just a career goal. Engage with industry news, listen to podcasts, and join discussions. The more immersed you are, the more natural the skills become.
