Sprint 12 :: Feedback is a gift 🎁
Recently, more than once, my CPO has told me that "Feedback is a gift". A simple and logical statement but one that is not always treated in the most correct way.
Whether on a personal or professional level, there are many people who don't like feedback because they look at it as a negative thing, pointing out mistakes or an analysis with the aim of putting someone's work down... but it's the exact opposite of all that. 🌌
Feedback is important because it helps individuals and organizations understand how their actions and behaviors are perceived by others, and it can provide guidance on how to improve or change those actions and behaviors. It can also help individuals and organizations identify and address any problems or issues that may have arisen. It can be particularly valuable in a work setting, as it can help employees understand what they are doing well and where they may need to make changes in order to be more effective and productive. It can also help managers and leaders identify areas for improvement within their teams and organizations, and can be used to establish a culture of continuous learning and development. 🧑💻
In addition to helping individuals and organizations improve and grow, feedback can also strengthen relationships and build trust. By openly soliciting and receiving feedback, individuals and organizations demonstrate a willingness to listen and learn from others, which can foster a sense of collaboration and mutual respect.
What product manager has not already taken advantage of customers or stakeholders feedback? How many features haven't already been improved or simplified through feedback from an angry customer with the complexity or functioning of something? Personally, it happens to me a lot. I get feedback every week. Out of 5 shares, 1 could be super important for my product and my work. And that's the point.
Reasons why customer feedback is vital for product management success:
You’re building a product for customers, sometimes they know best what is a good experience
For prioritizing product features, since a feature requested 10 times is probably more important than one no one asked
Measure customer satisfaction, we all want to know how our product is performing
But how to get feedback? I will share some of my experiences:
1:1 meetings
Focus groups
What to do with the feedback we receive?
Product Analytics
Usability testing
Survey to validate the received feedback
Overall, this sharing is an essential component of personal and professional development, and can help individuals and organizations achieve their goals and improve their performance.
