Sprint 13 :: Product Eyes 👀
As a product manager or product owner I find very interesting the usage of a product nowadays.
Most of the time we are so influenced by our job that we seek to find ways to improve a product when we are using it, it becomes a daily ritual whenever you are using something.
“This could benefit from…”; “If they did this it would be better..”; “I think this button would be better here for UX sake” and so on…
Sometimes I even find myself thinking how the product people from whatever it is that I’m using thought, and trying to reverse think something just to imagine myself in that position, that of course leads me to think about my own product and things that I could improve at it, it has even led me to think of new features based on things that I was using that had no correlation whatsoever!
This is a small part of a product that I did not know I would have, but something that now I love in my daily life, being it playing a game, or using a productivity app (mostly playing a game) and I find myself dissecting an idea that would be useful in a future product.
This in itself is discovery at its finest, not the discovery we all know of with the principles and all the frameworks, but the product discovery's heart, the curiosity that takes over us to find what we could do, and how to solve something that’s not even our job, but we do it out of fun! Armed with a notebook and a pen (or with digital means by who loves it the most) we go to our “war” finding out ways to improve something.

On Frederico’s side:
One of the everyday products that fascinates me the most is my new hand blender.
What could be so great about a hand blender? Intensity led lights!!
With this hand blender, you don't have to stop to see if the soup or smoothie is liquidy enough. If the light is red, then there's still some time to go.. if it's green.. It's great and you can stop!
This is possible through a blade sensor that detects the intensity with which it is rotating. Impressive isn't it?
On Bruno’s side:
I think the latest product to really fascinate me and that made me think about the product discovery and product management phases was the Nothing Phone 1, the design is just exquisite! and looking at that glyph I think about how they thought about it? What was the thought process for that design, for the glyph? for that OS? It’s just a wonder put together.
From the Glyph interface functionality working just beautifully.
The design behind so vanguardist and yet so simple, makes for a beautiful device that easily is a conversation starter.
The OS seems to be just made for that phone, perfect, minimalist, sensational.
And the Marketing behind the launch? I imagine the joy the PM and the Marketing team felt, it was just incredible.
Carl Pey just nailed it with that device, I don’t have one yet unfortunately, but I’m pretty sure 2023 will be the year I buy it!
At the end of finding a way to improve something, have you ever gone to LinkedIn and found the PO responsible for that product and told him you tried? or how you got to a solution? Wouldn’t it be fun if we could all just share some information around and improve each other’s products?
This is one of the first feelings I noticed from starting to work in this area, the constant curiosity and need to dissect products. What was yours?
