Sprint 71 :: The need for Product Managers and the Humane Pin.
First of all, let me take this out of the way. What Humane did is incredible, it is a HUGE leap forward in the history of telecommunications and a HUGE leap forward in using AI on a day to day basis. It’s simply incredible and I hope they just grow from their problems and get better and better.
Now onto the issue at hands. There is a reason Product Owners and Product Managers are hired, and there is a reason they are compensated as they are for their roles within companies. If you have a very good Product Manager they will help you improve on your product and escalate it to new heights. For Humane , it almost seems as they either didn’t have a Product Manager to approve the release of their product, or simply didn’t listen to them.
Humane pin seemed incredible, and it seemed like a huge leap forward in terms of technology, however, they where riddled with issues right from the start with many people taking to social networks to complain about the product, also.. Subscription for a bought product? really guys? c’mon!
It’s here where a Product Manager could have come and saved the day, it’s the job of the product manager to analyze the market to see what users want and what they need, and what problem this product is solving, however, it’s also the job of the Product Manager to ensure that the product is fit for market and ready to be released.
Now, I haven’t tried it myself unfortunately, but based on the issues that I saw spoken in social networks, this was a product fir for the market, that solved some user issues with the current technology (smartphones) but, it wasn’t quite ready for market yet. It needed some polishing.
I’m sure that Humane will solve all the quirks and we will have a good technological leap out of this, but right now, they seem like they could use/hear a Product Manager and be helped by one, since the product is awesome but not quite there yet for the masses.
A good Product Manager can make or break a product, but the company has to empower them and listen to them or it will just be a Product Manager in spirit, but most of their work will go unnoticed.
For all the companies out there, you hired a Product Manager for a reason, use them! listen to them, and let them be part of everything, you will go to greater heights with the right Product Manager for you!
To Humane. Don’t be discouraged, we’ve all launched products that where quite there, and I’m sure you can improve on them and do way better.
And to our readers, if you haven’t seen the Humane Pin, please go check it out! It’s awesome, and it looks like a great leap forward!
