Sprint 79 :: The Product and the Lead Dev, a Professional story
Finding yourself in a corporation where you and your lead developer have similar spirits and understand each other is something invaluable! It almost feels like finding true love or getting that tinder match, only…. in a professional level.
A strong Lead Dev certainly makes the difference for the development team, and it sure makes the life of a product owner way easier, but what about when you and that lead dev have a similar way of thinking and a similar spirit? Having a dev like this in your team helps you be able to focus more on your job and worry less about the technical side, that dev empowers your words and thoughts with the team, and at the same time you do the same for them from the business side of things. It becomes like a merging, a cog, a well oiled machine, where you can and will have plenty of discussions about what to do and how to do it only to be faced by good critical thinking that matches your own.
These kind of relationships are rare to find, even more rare now that the world is so fed up with not so good product people that they start saying that Scrum is dead. When you find one of this relationships take care of it and nurture it, I’ve been lucky enough to have a lead dev that thinks in a similar way as I do, when I forget something (everyone forgets things) he is there to cover for me and help get trough it. Together, we can aim to go forward faster than we could alone, and together that same energy passes to the team and in a couple of sprints the team started to all think critically and voice their opinions, really forming a scrum and really giving a bit of themselves to the project.
There have been times when I have not been capable of doing things, because I was sick or out. In those moments I am able to fully trust that my lead dev will work in accordance with my business specs and I do not need to be there to ensure the needed things are done. All sprints started to be easier.
Yes, this is a Ode to all the lead devs that are out there and that get along with the Product team, please keep it going! keep saving us, and we promise we will always have your backs.
Although it all seems awesome, we must also make sure that each one of us keeps working in their own turf, the tech stuff is for the dev, the business stuff is for the product, and all the in-between is for both of us to figure out.
This was a appreciation post for our beloved developers out there. Remember to show them you care about them, bring them some pastel de nata! and if you are fully remote, then at least ask how they are and be nice to them!
